Reason #1 Why My Kid is a Genius

So I was sitting on the toilet the other day... (You have to love a post that starts like that.  Also, please notice that I'm about to tell you about something that happened while I was sitting on the toilet.  No one can say that you were not warned.)  Anyway, back to the toilet.  I had been feeling kind of crappy for a day or two and I had a sneaking suspicion that my womanly time of the month was coming.  You know what I mean...wink, wink.  So I was sitting there and realized that I had, in fact, gotten my period so I started bitching and complaining to myself.  Alexa was sitting on the floor in the bathroom playing with some toys while all this was going on so half way through my complaining I said: "Alexa, go get Mommy a tampon".  She looked at me (previous to this she had been sitting there ignoring my ranting and raving), stood up and purposefully walked out of the room.  I had closed the door from my bedroom to the rest of the house so I knew that she couldn't go very far but I was very interested to see if she was going to come back.  I figured that she either got completely fed up with my bitching and chose to walk out or she was actually going to go get me a tampon.  Not lying, I was hoping for the latter.  About two minutes later she stomps back into the bathroom, walks right up to me and thrusts both hands up to my face.  In each hand there was one of her little Sesame Street figures.  One was Oscar the Grouch and the other was Cookie Monster.  I proceeded to tell her that she was the smartest person I've ever met and that is why my kid is a genius.

Uh Oh Spaghetti-Os!

We went home for my Dad's birthday!!!  We were going to be home for other reasons but that party got cancelled.  No worries.  We celebrated my dad's birthday instead (which apparently was a big deal because we never celebrate his birthday other than the usual Boston Creme pie).  Have I ever talked about the birthday Boston Creme pie?  Well it's a running joke in our family that we never get to eat anything that my mom doesn't like.  For example, on the rare occasion that my dad would have to feed us dinner we often got Pizza Hut because we all liked it but mom thought it was gross.  My mom loves Boston Creme pie (only the one from Publix), therefore, we always got a Boston Creme pie as our birthday cake.  Now, I don't want this to sound like that's the only birthday cake we got because we definitely had a 'birthday week' which included many birthday parties (all of which had their own cake).   Back to our weekend.  We brought the dogs with us so Minnie and Rosie got to hang out again.  They love each other.  Rosie just puts up with our other dogs but her and Minnie are BFFs.  Also, Nicky was down for the weekend so he gave Alexa her Christmas present (as if she needed another present).  It was a little shopping cart with plastic food and two spots for her baby dolls, which is perfect because both Rachel and Temperence got to ride in the cart.  Alexa loves it she pushes it around all the time and loves to fill it up with anything and everything.
I guess Grammy wanted to hold Rachel and Temperence but Lexi didn't like that too much.  She had everyone at dinner banging their hands on the table too.  It's hilarious what we'll do for her entertainment!

Oh!  And Brittany came over on Sunday!  I'm going to brag a little bit and write about my friend Brittany.  She got a job dancing in an opera!  How cool is that?!  We are going to try to go see it which I am also pretty excited about because I've never been to an opera before.

One more cute thing to write about...
Alexa says 'uh oh'.  I think she picked it up at school because we don't say it at home very much.  Anyway, when she says it, I automatically say 'uh oh Spaghetti-Os'.  Don't ask why, just consider it a turret-like symptom of mine.  So yesterday I was listening to her walk around saying 'uh oh, sedio' over and over again.  Hilarious.

Yellow Day!

We had Yellow Day!!! I decided that it might be a fun thing to have a color day once every week or two to help Alexa learn her colors. OK, so I know that she is way too young for this but I feel like if we keep doing it, it might turn into a fun little tradition. Plus, Nick and I wanted to finger paint. We decided to start out with the primary colors, move on to secondary colors and then do days for pink, black, brown, white...stuff like that. (Although, I forsee 'Black Day' being slightly controversial) We all wore our yellow shirts and did things like...

Eat a yellow breakfast of bananas and Cheerios
(which happens to be what she eats for breakfast everyday)

Look for things around the house that are yellow.

Played with yellow finger paint.
(We made home made paint which was more like finger glob as opposed to finger paint. Alexa was not that interested at all. In fact, this picture was taken in the three seconds that she actually touched her hand to the paper. Most of the time she was showing us the paint on her hand until we wiped it off...then she found a ball)

We practiced breathing with her aerochamber, which also happens to be yellow. :)

She played with her yellow ball...

... the yellow steering wheel thing...

...and we picked out the yellow toys (while we were upstairs in the yellow room!)

All in all, it was a pretty good day. I think next time we are going to do blue. Speaking of blue, look at my pretty dining room!!! It's my favorite room in our house, especially at Christmas time!

Friends

Do you watch Friends? I love that show. I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode at least 10 times. When Jaime and I lived together we would have complete conversations consisting of nothing but quotes from Friends episodes. Pretty awesome, I know. Anyway, when everyone was up here for Christmas, Ricky was sitting next to Alexa when she was eating. I heard him asking her if she wanted more and he kept repeating and emphasising the word more. I thought: 'Great, we've been working on the sign for more. I'm glad he's doing it with her'. OK, not so much because when I walked over to them every time he said more he would double bump his fists together with the back of his hands facing her. He thought he was doing the correct sign for more. I informed him that he was flicking off my kid Friends style.

Christmas!

It has yeet again been a long time since I've posted anything but I've been busy! We had Christmas at our house this year chich was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. The decorations are still not completely put away. We had our immediate families (minus one sister) plus my aunt, uncle and cousins (plus fiance) come up so it was a house full of people. And I think everyone had a good time except for the stomach bug that hit my dad, Katie and Carolyn. Lexi got lots of presents (of course) and she actually stayed awake this year through opening them which was a lot of fun!!! Instead of boring you with all the details, here's an increadably long (and very much out of order) post of pictures...enjoy!
