Playing Catch Up

I was just looking back on my previous posts and I realized that there isn't much of Alexa in the form of pictures, video, etc. Sorry. I know the few people that actually read my blog are more interested in her then me. I don't blame you, she's pretty awesome. So without further ado, I give you..."Alexa's life over the past two months as told in pictures".

Shower Streams

I was just in the shower and I discovered the most entertaining thing ever! (You got to love a blog post that starts with a sentence like that) In case you haven't figured it out already...WARNING! I am once again going to talk about my boobs. I'm sorry, I know no one really wants to hear about it (again) but I've never really had them before and I find them intriguing. So the background to this story is that Alexa is starting to take at least one bottle of formula a day in addition to nursing. When she had formula earlier it filled her up and then she didn't nurse as well and, well the important thing to know is that when I got into the shower I had one side drained and the other side was pretty full. So I was standing there washing my hair and thinking about how much my right boob is going to hurt by morning. Then I thought of one of my nurse friends at Joe D who was nursing at the time and told me that she could shoot milk out of her boob by squeezing it. Well obviously I had to try it and oh does it work! And I must say, for my little boobies I can sure shoot an impressive stream! Plus, now I'm not going to be in so much pain in the morning. Was it an immature thing to do? Yes. Should I have just pumped so that Alexa could have more milk to drink while I'm at work? Probably. Did I have the time of my life playing target practice with Alexa's bath toys? Absolutely!

Why Women Should Never Have Burned Their Bras

For one thing, they provide support that even a small busted individual such as myself can appreciate. Really, who wants to be flopping around all over the place? Not I says Kristin, not I. And while I'm all for womens rights and all that crap, I'd rather just stay at home and be a mom. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful for my education. And being the relatively smart person that I am, I'm glad that I had the opprotunity to go to college, and I'm glad that my oppinion is respected at work, blah blah blah. I can understand why the women's rights people back in the day were all about it. But I have to say, I'm not. Besides, I'm a much better mom then I am a nurse (and I can be a pretty damn good nurse when I want to be). I just wish I could stay at home with Alexa during the day and then teach a bunch of dance classes in the evenings. Who wants to take care of a bunch of sick kids anyways? One of the newer nurses told me that some day Alexa will be proud that her mommy takes care of all these sick children. Ah, young, idealistic new nurses. No offense, but you are so wrong. What will really happen is that Alexa will ask "mommy, why do you have to go take care of those other kids instead of staying with me?" Good question, Lexi. I'll just go to work and be a nurse to all these super sick children and all their nastiness and then bring it right home to Alexa so that she can then get sick and then I'll feel horrible because obviously I was the carrier who gave it to her. And that is my very long drawn out reason of why I should be a stay at home mom.

The Balding Women of Oakwood Trail

Everyone says that when you are pregnant you have this beautiful thick hair. While mine never reached what I thought was it's full potential of thickness, I did notice that it didn't fall out in the shower as much. Little side note for those of you without curly hair: everyone looses hair throughout the day. If you have curly hair, instead of randomly falling out those strands get stuck in the curls, product, etc. so they end up falling out in the shower. The other thing that everyone says is about three months after the baby is born all that thick beautiful hair falls out. Well guess who's going bald?! It's ridiculous. Every time I take a shower there is a clump of hair that falls out. And I mean a clump. It's about the size of a small animal. Perhaps the size of a mouse or what I imagine a baby squirel would be. Nasty. The garbage can in my bathroom is full of hair balls. I feel like if I didn't get the beautiful thick hair, I should not get the thin nasty hair. I realize that at some point in my life I will be practically bald (thank you Lichok family) but I was kind of hoping it would be slightly later.

On to the next balding lady. That would be Alexa. Poor thing was born with two things working against her in the balding category. First, she has a double coulick (sp?) (thank you again, Lichok family) which appears kind of thin on the back/top of her head. And secondly, the kid was born with a bald spot on her occiput. Seriously, that spot that babies get from laying on their back too much, Alexa was born with it. That's just not a good start for her little head. So of course I'm slightly obcessed with the bald spot getting bigger and I don't want her to have a flat head. So she has always been put to sleep on her side (I know, bad mom. I put babies to sleep on their sides at work and I put babies to sleep on their sides at home). Plus, she sleeps on her belly when she takes naps during the day. So now she has a bald spot on the back of her head that's growing from when she's in her car seat, bouncy seat, etc. she has a bald spot on either side of her head from when she sleeps and to top it off her head is growing and her hair is thinning out. Poor thing, the hair is sparse to say the least. Oh well, at least it still lays down flat. :) Hopefully in the next couple months we will both get some new growth. Until then, try not to pay too much attention to the little hair on baldie and baldette.

Top 5 Reasons Why I Will Not Be Nominated For The 2010 Mother of the Year Award

5 - Some days Alexa and I don't get out of bed until the afternoon because we are too busy cuddling.

4 - I let her fall asleep on my (or Nick's) chest every single night because we like it. And almost every day, she takes a nap on her belly.

3 - It is currently 20 degrees outside and I'm pretty positive that I don't have an extra hat, socks or blanket in the diaper bag. I have also driven to Tallahassee with no wipes (had to go to Babies-R-Us to buy some) and I have not once packed enough diapers when we go out of town.

2 - I have, on multiple occasions, taken my kid's picture until she cries. This actually happens about once a week. How else am I supposed to know if she's had enough?! And then usually when she does start crying, I calm her down and then try to take more pictures.

1 - A little background story on this one: When Nick is cooking he usually puts the raw ingredients under Alexa's nose so she can smell them (she loves pepperoni!!!). So I was making peanut butter balls a few weeks ago and totally put a big chunk of peanut butter on my finger and let her smell it. She even got a little bit on the tip of her nose. I thought I was being such a good mom stimulating all my child's senses, etc. When Nick came home and I told him about it he freaked out! I guess Alexa is officially not allergic to peanuts. Oops.

I know that (minus the nut story) it's all something that everyone has done. And I actually do think that I'm pretty good at this mothering thing. I just thought the peanut story was kind of funny. You know, since it had a positive outcome.

My Personal Issue With Taylor Swift

Since I've been staying home from work with Alexa, I usually have the tv on low just to have something to listen to or watch while she's eating or whatever. I have come to the realization that I don't like Taylor Swift. I have no problems with her in general as a person and I pretty much like her music. Watching her perform makes me want to vomit. I don't understand why, but when she sings she feels the need to stand with her feet super far apart. I mean, ridiculously far apart. There must be at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet between her feet. If she peed as she was singing, there would be no wetness on her legs at all. I don't understand it. I'm so distracted by her stance that I don't even know what song she's singing. All I can think about is how uncomfortable it must be to stand like that. It's actually quite impressive, if you think about it. She's doing this in heels. I would definitely fall over. I mean, there has to be a reason behind it, right? So as I'm watching her perform all the reasons of why her legs are so far apart are running through my head. Maybe her underwear were riding up and she couldn't pick her wedgie before going on stage. Maybe she's having a little sweating problem and wants to air everything out. Maybe she wore jean shorts to Disney World the day before and she's experiencing some chafing (I can totally sympathize with that one). Maybe she just wants to feel what it would be like to stand without her thighs touching at all. Maybe she made a bet with her friend that she could make it though a whole song with her legs that far apart without falling. The possibilities are endless. I thought it was just a one time thing that she did on the Today Show. Nope. A few days later she had the same stance on Ellen. So anyway, when I saw it for the second time, I really couldn't handle it anymore and I officially don't like her now. Maybe one of her stylist/publicist/choreographers told her to stand like that. That person should be fired. Maybe that person told her to stand like that as a joke just to see if she'd do it, in which case that person is awesome. And that is my story of why I have an issue with Taylor Swift.

Alexa Rolls Over!!!

On Tuesday I put Alexa down for tummy time (which she usually hates). She loves being on her tummy as long as she's on someone's chest but as soon as you put her on the ground or a blanket, it's all over. So anyway, I put her on her tummy because she was in a relatively good mood. She was lifting her head and chest up to look at her book and all of a sudden...she rolled over onto her back. So then of course I tried to make her do it again, she got upset and long story short after taking a time out to get her happy and playful, she did it again and I got it on video. It's pretty funny, after she rolls over her face is like "Oh my God, there's my fan. How did I end up here?"
